  • What is the purpose of the program?

    The purpose of Arize Work and travel services is to provide tertiary students the privilege of experiencing the American culture and other sub cultures simultaneously, through traveling and temporary employment for a duration of up to four months during their summer vacation.

  • What is the 30 day Grace Period?

    According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) upon completion of your J-1 activity, you may remain in the U.S.A for an additional 30 days, which means that you have 30 days after your program to spend sightseeing and visiting family members within the US and NOT for WORKING. If you choose to do this, please remember that once you cross the border into another country, your J-1 grace period is over and it is no longer possible to re-enter the U.S. with your J-1 visa. Staying in the U.S. beyond the 30-day grace period without a pending application for a change of status is considered illegal and will have a negative effect on your ability to come to the U.S. in the future.

  • How do sponsors screen and select program participants?

    Sponsors conduct a personal or group Skype interview of participants and select base on the participants’ needs, background and experience. It is also required that participants meet the eligibility criteria and must possess proficiency in the English Language.

  • Who is eligible for the J1 program?

    A full time registered college or university student between the ages of 18- 28 years old and pursuing an associate or a bachelor degree at an accredited educational institution. You must be registered for each semester and doing at least 12 credits per semester while, maintaining a GPA of at least 2.0.

  • Can I participate on the Work and Travel program in my 4th year of studies?

    Yes, final year students qualify once they are eligible. There are no prohibition against participating on the program.

  • What is SEVIS?

    Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is a US based system that allows the Department of Homeland Security to collect and use accurate and current information about US designated sponsors, nonimmigrants and exchange visitors throughout their stay in the US. This system also maintains up to date information such as visa issuance, admission at the Port of Entry (POE), employment notification, program extensions etc. The information gathered is retained by SEVIS to carry out portions of its national security, law enforcement, and immigration control functions.

  • What is the SEVIS I-901 fee?

    The I-901 SEVIS Fee is paid to the Department of Homeland Security and is mandated to support the program office and the automated system that keeps track of students and exchange visitors and ensures that they maintain their status while in the United States. Each student or exchange visitor issued an initial I-20 or DS-2019 is responsible for paying this fee to SEVIS. This fee must be paid before going to the Embassy as all participants should have proof of payment to show the Consular at your interview. The SEVIS I-901 fee is currently $35 US dollars, if you are required to pay the fee and do not, you will be denied a visa and or entry to the United States. 

  • What is the J1 Program?

    The J1 program provides participants with an opportunity to be employed and reside in the United States during their summer vacation from college or university to encounter and have firsthand experience of the United States culture.

  • Can I have more than one jobs?.

    Yes, you can as many jobs as long as your sponsor is aware and it doesn’t interfere with your primary contract with your employer.

  • What does the Program fee includes?.

    The Program fee includes, DS2019 form, Insurance, Sevis fee, Job Placement and Wire Transfer fees. Please note Airfare, Visa fees, Housing deposits and rent are not included in this fee.
